Turf Legend John Nerud Subject Of Upcoming Documentary

A native Nebraskan that became one of the most influential leaders in Thoroughbred racing and breeding is the subject of a documentary film that is currently being developed.

The Scottsbluff Star-Herald reports that Jody Lamp and Melody Dobson have been researching the life of turf legend John Nerud for nearly a decade. Lamp, who like the late Nerud is a former resident of Minatare, Nebraska, is producing a documentary of Hall of Fame trainer that will likely be completed by next year.

The Nerud documentary was recently discussed at a meeting of the Scottsbluff City Council. A majority of the film's production is centered in the area, and the city is hoping it will generate more interest for film production in the future.

“John Nerud became one of America's most accomplished and revered thoroughbred horse trainers and breeders the industry has ever known,” Lamp said at the meeting. “Unfortunately, his story has gone untold and virtually unknown in the area and state where we was born and raised — until now.”
